The Day My Father Was Born

The day my father was born

Surely it was a sunny morn

With all the birds keeping a tune

While flowers danced in fancy bloom

And for sure it is this your mother did say,

“What a fine boy I’ve been blessed with on this special day!”

Your father, too, must have been proud as punch

To add this divine lad to his Irish bunch

If it wasn’t for my father,

What would my mother do?

When men like him

Are so far and few

All five children agree

When they pray

Thank God for my father

And that special day

And the angels in heaven knew why

They danced that morn,

‘Tis that was the day my father was born!

Irish Love by: Nuala Molloy Moran

Irish Magic --by Nuala Molloy Moran c 02-2016

IRISH LOVE

Rolling down the hills of Ireland entwined and laughing

Landing at the bottom in the sweet green clover

Kicking up my heels dancing a reel all around you

Singing the songs we love over and over and over

Irish love…beauty everywhere…Irish love…music fills the air

Diving into the cold but lovely Irish Sea

Kissing and splashing in the frothy spray

Sunning ourselves, delighting in a picnic

Sharing secret dreams of the past and today

Irish love…tenderness counts…Irish love…fun is paramount

Stepping up to the Giant’s Causeway

My most favorite Irish natural wonder

Which compliments you magnificently —

An intricate staircase and sky of thunder

Irish love…cheers to your health!  Irish love…more precious than wealth

Bending on one knee outside my door

With talk about seeing the preacher

Love overflows and fills our storehouse

Thanks be to the Infinite Teacher!

Irish love…would never chain…Irish love…only good to gain

St. Patrick summed up Irish love poetically:

(Although this is not from a reliable source)

“It’s joyously unrestrained, and creeps up on you—

If it was a snake it would have bit me, of course!”

Irish love…Have a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  Irish Love…Luck o’ the Irish – it’s not a cliché
